Black bear hunting

High success two bears hunt in Eastern Canada

Our hunting territory is in Québec, at the borders of the province of New-Brunswick and the Rimouski Wildlife Preserve. The latter is known for having the largest concentration of black bear in this part of Quebec. Under a special agreement with the government, our lodge is the only hunting lodge allowed to organize black bear hunts in the Rimouski Wildlife Preserve. Our hunting territory covers over 350 square miles with exclusive hunting rights.

In partnership with a New-Brunswick outfitter, we also have access to the northern part of New-Brunswick adjacent to our territory. This enables our hunters to go for a second bear.

This territory is accessible by road. Baits are carefully set up and checked by professional, experimented guides, which assures successful bear hunting. Our guides will carefully prepare several hunting sites in early May. Many of our sites are specifically intended for bow and crossbow hunters. For 2004 season, we were running over 80 baiting stations. Often one may observe four to five bears per station.

Black bear hunting is accomplished during the latter part of the afternoon and early evening. Your guide will drive you to your hunting site. We bait our sites daily, therefore you will be driven to active sites only. Once your animal is down, we will take care of it and prepare the hide on your behalf.

To fill in your days we suggest that you bring your fishing gear (fly fishing or spinning gear) and fish one of the lakes for brook trout. Non bear hunters fishing runs $145 CAN per day, and includes lodging and meals.

The spring season is also a good time of the year to observe Canada moose. At that time of year, moose move from their winter yards to their summer range. Cows are monitoring their past year offspring before giving birth to the new calf generation. It is not uncommon to see several animals on the same day while on the way to the bear hunting sites.

Alternately, you may spend your daytime at the lodge playing pool in our poolroom, or watching hunting videos or simply reading, and relaxing in our comfortable living room in front of the fireplace.
